2019 Subaru Forester wins Best Compact SUV at MudFest If you thought the new 2019 Subaru Forester was unstoppable... you may be right! This month the 2019 Subaru Forester won the Best compact and subcompact SUV award at MudFest.

The Forest has always been a fan favorite when it comes to getting off the beaten path and hitting the trails. This year, Subaru has made it even better with the addition of the Dual X-mode to its Sport model.

For the last 25 years, the Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) have been holding an event called Mudfest, which is an annual competition to find which vehicles are performing better than other in a variety of rugged terrains and on asphalt. Members of the organization have been testing SUVs and crossovers since the advent of the modern sport-utility vehicle in the mid-1990s.

MudFest consists essentially of 2 segments, on-road and off-road evaluations. During the on-road evaluation, all competing vehicles were tested on a multitude of driving points such as acceleration, handling, panic braking, rear-view cameras and more.

The on-road testing mostly took place on The Ridge’s go-kart track. This track creates the type of road condition you would encounter in your everyday drives with elevation changes, sharp corners, and sweeping curves.

During the Off-road testings, the competing vehicles were also evaluated on a course that simulated rough roads and trails that most drivers often encounter on weekend adventures.

John Vincent, NWAPA president, mentioned that the 2019 NWAPA Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year competition featured the most diverse group of vehicles they have seen in its 25-year history.

The Subaru Forester's Symmetrical AWD system was truly put to the test against its competition. This course allowed the Forester to showcase its state-of-the-art Dual X-Mode with traction control, SI-DRIVE, and 8.7-inches of ground clearance.
